Sacramento gets a hundred days over ninety degrees and a back yard you cannot sit in for four months of the year. A cover is the difference between a patio and a slab.
These are built on site out of real timber, not assembled from a kit. That matters because no two pads are square, no two houses meet the ground at the same height, and a kit assumes both.
What goes into one
- Posts set properly, footings where the ground calls for them
- Beams and rafters sized for the span, not for the picture
- Solid or lattice roof, or a shade run on tracks
- Wiring for lights and fans built in as it goes up, not stapled on after
- Stain or paint to match the house
- Levelling against a pad that is never as square as you were told
Gazebos
Freestanding, so everything the house would have given you — a level line, a wall to tie into — has to be made. The one in the photographs went onto a pad that was out by enough to matter, and the fix is in the frame rather than in the concrete.

- How long does a cover take?
- Around two weeks for a full build, one guy. Send a photo of the space and roughly the size you want and I will give you a real number.
- Can you put lights and a fan in it?
- Yes, and it is much cheaper done while it is going up than added afterwards.
- Attached to the house or freestanding?
- Either. Attached is cheaper and needs the ledger done properly. Freestanding goes anywhere and costs a little more in posts.
