Replacing kitchen cabinets costs what a small car costs. Painting the ones you have costs a fraction of it, and if the boxes are sound the result is a kitchen you would not know had been painted.
The work is in the preparation, not the paint. Doors and drawers off and labelled, hardware out, degreased — kitchen cabinets carry years of cooking film that paint will not stick through — then filled, sanded, primed, and sprayed rather than brushed so there is no brush mark to catch the light.

Kitchen installation
New kitchen as well as old one. Old units and countertop out, flat-pack carcasses built and levelled on the wall, doors hung and aligned, panels and plinths scribed to a floor that is never flat, and the electrical fixtures and the sink put back. The kitchen in the first review on the homepage was exactly this: the old one demolished, IKEA cabinets assembled and fitted start to finish, with the drywall, painting and electrical that goes with it.

How long a kitchen takes
Three to five days for an average kitchen, most of it drying. You lose the use of the doors for that time but not the cabinets themselves, and I put the hardware back on and rehang everything at the end rather than leaving you a pile of doors.

Straight answers
- Will it chip?
- Not if the preparation was done. Every failure I have been called to fix was paint over grease or paint with no primer under it.
- Can you match a colour?
- Yes, bring a sample or a door and it gets matched at the store.
- Is my furniture worth refinishing?
- Send a photo. Solid wood almost always is. Veneer over particle board usually is not, and I will tell you that rather than take the job.
