Named for the trees, and the trees are most of what I end up dealing with.
Fair Oaks runs into Carmichael on one side and Citrus Heights on the other, and the line between them is not something most people who live here could draw on a map. Practically, the houses behave like their neighbours: the same generation of build, the same mature canopy over them, the same fence and gutter consequences that come with both.
I am not going to invent a neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood read on Fair Oaks that I have not earned yet — the Carmichael and Citrus Heights pages have more detail because I have more hours in those streets. What I can tell you is what the trees and the ground do here, because that part does not vary.
What comes up here
Mature oak is the heaviest gutter load in the county — it drops twice a year, not once, and the second drop is the fine stuff that packs down and holds water. A packed gutter through a wet Sacramento winter is how fascia board rots, which is a much larger bill than the clean would have been. Limbs coming down on a fence line are the other half of the same tree.
Ground closer to the American River stays damp for longer after the wet season, and a fence post rots from the soil line upward where you cannot see it. The fence looks fine and then one windy week it does not. Pushing on the posts, not the boards, is how you find out early enough to reset two instead of rebuilding a run.
